Shelby GT40 MKII 50th Anniversary Le Mans
Built to honor the Ford and Shelby. This car feels and sounds like it just stepped out of Parc Ferme thanks to its 427 big block and style steel monocoque unibody chassis.
A winning history
In the early ‘60s, Ford Motor Co. was in talks to buy Ferrari and after negotiations broke down, Henry Ford II was determined to show the ‘house of Enzo’ that Ford could field a world beating racing platform. With the racing and team success of the Shelby Cobra and Daytona Cobra Coupes (powered by Ford engines), Henry Ford II turned to Carroll Shelby to get the ‘W’ on the world’s biggest stage – the 24hours of LeMans. And win they did, Ford and Shelby combined for a 1-2-3 sweep of the ’66 race and the overall ‘W’ for four straight years ’66-69. In honor of that historic win, Shelby American will build a limited run of (20) 50th Anniversary Shelby GT40 MkII cars to honor this historic racing platform.
Built to honor history and to drive fast
These continuation cars are built around the original style steel monocoque unibody chassis and fully independent suspension using unequal length A-arms. Over twothirds of the parts are interchangeable with the original racecar. In fact, it comes with the Gurney bubble and can even be ordered in the original right hand drive. The car also stays true to the original GT40 MkII’s dimensions (163in long and 40in high) with the same 2x 10gallon fuel tanks. Even the cockpit stays true to the original with Smith style gauges and silver riveted seats. And of course, it features the big block 427 engine installed, making this car feel and sound like it just stepped out of Parc Ferme.
